All to the Glory of Christ

“And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” -- John 14:13

Often we think of prayer in terms of God answering our requests, with the main result being that our needs are satisfied and we are blessed. Now, that is clearly a result of prayer, but the deeper and more significant result is found in our text, John 14:13.

When we ask God (prayer) and it is answered (“that will I do”), the Father is glorified in the Son! While we enjoy temporal and personal blessings through answered prayer, ultimately it is to the glory of God and Christ. God brings glory to Himself through answering our prayers!

In 2Peter 3:18, the Apostle Peter closes out his second epistle by admonishing us as follows: “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” Your prayer life is a great means to bring honor and glory to Jesus Christ.

Are my prayers selfish? Lord, please show me the “big picture” – prayer is a blessing to me; but more importantly it brings glory to Thee!
Is my prayer life truly focused on bringing glory to Christ?
